OAIA Experiences creates premium private nature experiences for travellers who want to experience the real Muriwai. Through local knowledge, storytelling, stunning coastal landscapes and gentle wellbeing practices, guests leave feeling connected—to nature, to New Zealand and to themselves.
OAIA is named after Oaia Island, the distinctive rocky island just off Muriwai’s coastline. A familiar landmark to locals and part of the landscape we love, it represents our connection to this wild stretch of Auckland’s west coast — and fittingly, it’s where every OAIA experience begins.
Meet Jo,
Growing up in Auckland’s Waitākere Ranges, with a New Zealand mother and a Dutch father, welcoming visitors from the other side of the world was a special part of my childhood. We loved sharing our way of life and introducing our guests to the places, people and experiences that made New Zealand so memorable. Seeing them return home with stories and memories to last a lifetime sparked something in me that has never left.
That passion followed me as I travelled the world and built a career creating meaningful experiences for others - from organising two-week international incentive trips to delivering corporate wellbeing workshops throughout New Zealand.
Eventually, I paused to consider what truly lit me up and how I wanted to spend the next chapter of my life. The answer brought together everything I have always loved: sharing New Zealand, creating genuine connections, meeting people from different cultures and helping others feel restored through nature and wellbeing.
OAIA was born from that vision — a way to welcome visitors into the place I call home and share the wild beauty, local stories and authentic character of Muriwai.
My hope is that every guest leaves feeling more connected - to this remarkable place, to the people they have met and perhaps even to themselves.
